For the last 18 months we have been based in Bangalore in South India and trialling our power service in the south-western state of Karnataka. While in Karnataka, we have learnt why some customers were using our service for convenience, while others were using it for necessity.
We have also learnt how to work with different network partners, following successful trials with mobile network operators, Idea Cellular and Vodafone in Hubli, and banking inclusion network i25 in Shimogga.
As we prepare our service for scale, we want to make sure we have space to expand. We want to make sure we are located in the area of India where our service can have the biggest impact.
This move will allow us to expand our service over the next 18 months across Uttar Pradesh, while also positioning the business to serve Bihar, Jharakand and West Bengal. These four states have a combined population of 428 million people, a massive market in need of reliable access to power. And our team is ready to make that happen.
IF Uttar PradEsh WErE a Country
If Uttar Pradesh were a country, it would be the fifth largest country in the world by population, yet 165th by wealth. So while there are more people living in Uttar Pradesh than Italy, France and Germany combined, the state generates less income than much smaller countries, like Mali, Chad or Yemen. And all in an area as big as the UK.
